Uganda National Wildlife Park Information
There are 10 official National Parks in Uganda and many other Conservation Areas where you will find an abundance of wildlife and birds and in many cases in Uganda as you go on a Safari you will not be surrounded by other tourists but be on your own with your expert guide or ranger.
You’ve heard of the Big Five, – how about the Big Seven? In Uganda we can go TWO better! On safari in Uganda, not only can you see the Big Five (lions including the tree climbing ones, elusive leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino) you can trek the Mountain Gorillas and Track the Chimpanzees plus abundance of hippos, crocodiles. Uganda is the only country where you can see all these animals.
Uganda may not have the large numbers of wildlife that you can see in Kenya and Tanzania, however, patient game tracking can be rewarding. All the major wildlife attractions can be seen easily and you often feel you have the National Park to yourself. You’re certainly very unlikely to meet a traffic jam in Uganda’s bush!
Uganda offers more bio-diversity; there are wetlands and conservations areas besides the National Parks such as Bigodi Wetlands, Mabamba swamp, Budongo Forest and many others that will add to your National Parks of Uganda Visit. Uganda has arguably Africa’s greatest variety of birdlife with over 1,030 species recorded. Uganda’s Birding Big Five are: Shoebill, Secretary Bird, Green Breasted Pitta, African Green Broad-bill and Pel’s Fishing Owl.
It’s possible to spot over 450 species of birds in Uganda in a two or three week trip, if you’re well prepared with a professional bird guide. Even if you don’t see yourself as a birder, I defy you not to fall in love with birds after visiting the Pearl of Africa!
There are the mountains from extinct volcanoes to glaciers on the equator, jungles and rainforests, lakes, lakes and more lakes all awaiting your visit and exploration.
The majority of Uganda’s tourists will visit one or several of Uganda’s ten national parks. The parks are managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

Ugandan National Parks Information
Murchison Falls National Park Information: Uganda’s largest National Park sought for its legendary falls, a boat ride up to them with lots of wildlife in the waters and along the shores, including a massive number of birds. One of the prime game parks in Uganda known for its big game animals and diversity of wildlife, plus you can fish the Nile for Nile Perch.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park: A dense forest with steep ridges that take a bit of stamina to traverse. Here one finds the largest number of Mountain Gorillas and many birds that live in the forest and most visitors seek out one of the above.
Kibale Forest National Park: Primarily visited for its Chimpanzees, monkeys, including nocturnal ones and birds. There is a lot to explore here beyond the primates of Kibale Forest, there area birds, other mammals and reptiles. Visit the Jungle of Kibale Forest.
Kidepo Valley National Park Information: One of the least visited Parks due to its distance and problems of reaching it by road, cost of transportation and at times the possibility of banditry near the border with Kenya. You can fly into the park from Kampala. The Park is known for its predators such Lions, Leopard, cheater etc. Other mammals include Zebras, Giraffes, 12 kinds of antelopes, 77 kinds of mammals in all and 463 kind of bird species.
Lake Mburo National Park Information: A quiet park has an abundance of Zebras, one of the few areas in Uganda, also antelopes, buffaloes, leopards, hippos, crocodiles and many birds. The perfect place for a Uganda Mini-Safari. 4½ hours from Kampala Lake Mburo awaits you.
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Information: A wow park for its rugged beauty, sought out for its gorillas when they are not in Rwanda, besides hiking and climbing the volcanic peaks that are found there. Endangered Golden Monkey Tracking is also done here.
Mount Elgon National Park: Waterfalls, hiking, climbing. Park is located on border with Kenya, the peak is on the Ugandan side. Lots of interesting vegetation and birds. The vegetation changes to Afro-Montane as you climb higher.
Rwenzori Mountains National Park: The tallestt mountain range in Africa, glaciers, snow capped peaks right on the equator knowing for its 7 day climbing and hiking trails, mountain climbing, forest birds and Afro-montane plants.
Queen Elizabeth National Park Information: You will find lots of big game here, the largest concentration of hippos in Africa, 612 species of birds and chimpanzees. A fabulous park, great to see Ugandan wildlife in you are gorilla tracking in nearby Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
Semliki National Park: Is part of the famous Rift Valley, hot springs, waterfalls, many birds not found anywhere else in Uganda. A perfect place to explore if you are taking a mini-hike in the Rwenzori Mountains. The hot springs alone are worth exploring this park.
