We recommended that you do not have to base expectations on the experience of your country where “everything is available”. Try being flexible and have a better understanding of your lodging choice, let the differences be part of your African Adventure. You will be enjoyably surprised by the quality of service you will receive.

Chimpanzee Forest Guest House

For visitors planning to spend time in the region of the Kibale Forest National Park then you will not be disappointed with Chimpanzee Forest Guest House. It’s location on the Kamwenge Road with easy access from Fort Portal some 25 minutes drive away on a well graded. When you arrive, the views of the adjacent Isunga tea estate and the Kibale Forest are sublime and you know you’re going to enjoy yourself.  They have the main lodge building and  garden cottages .

All around are manicured lawns taunting. Very friendly and helpful staff. There is a chance for you to conduct nature walks from the Guest House with a resident guide to the nearby crater lakes, whilst with so much tea growing on the doorstep a visit to the local tea factory is a pre-requisite.

It’s a Ugandan family owned and managed facility. There are 3 en-suite cottages with views onto the Kibale Forest and over the tea estate, the forth cottage also en-suite faces towards the Rwenzori Mountains. The rooms in the main house that being a colonial styled tea estate managers property have shared bathroom facilities. A huge new thatched dining room, bar and lounge area has of recent been constructed in the gardens to take advantage of the views and natural surroundings.

The food is well presented. The staff are attentive and the drinks cold enough to enjoy yet another wonderful African sunset from an easy chair in the garden in a very relaxed style.

The Kanyanchu visitors centre in the Kibale Forest is an 11km drive that took 20 minutes to drive to where the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is a further 5 km along the road. The idyllic Lake Nkuruba is a walkable distance from the Guest House via the ‘Top of the World’ view point. You can drive some 30 minutes to visit this amazing volcanic Lake where the crater still maintains all it’s primary forest. The lake is home to an incredible variety of colorful birds and an abundant population of monkeys that include the very playful Black and White Colobus. A visit to Lake Nkuruba is the icing on the cake as provides a great viewing spectacle of monkeys at ‘eye level’ in forest canopy without having to crane the neck looking skyward for primates in the high canopy forest of the national park.
