Big 5 was established by the Big Game Hunters in another time, big 5 was not just the size of the animals but the difficulty of hunting them.  Nowadays the term is used by Safari companies and Safari travelers to Africa and usually the only hunting is with a camera.

Uganda offers you not only the Big Five, but Big Seven plus including Mountain Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Forest Elephants and Forest Buffalos.

Lions in Uganda:  The King of the Animals is found readily in various parks in Uganda such as Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park there you can also find the tree climbing lions in the Ishasha area of Queen Elizabeth National Park and in the remote Kidepo Valley National Park and Semuliki National Park.  There have been also sightings of lions at Lake Mburo National Park.  Traditionally one of the most sought after of the Big Five

Leopards in Uganda:  The quick and elusive leopards are found in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kibale Forest National Park, Lake Mburo National Park, Murchison Falls National Park, Kidepo Valley National Park and Mount Elgon National Park.  They are mostly nocturnal, but you can take a nocturnal Game Drive at Queen Elizabeth Park and just might spot some.  You just might spot one during an early game drive in some of the above parks.

Buffalos in Uganda:Not only can you find the Cape Buffalo in Uganda but also the smaller more reddish Forest Buffalos,.  They are quite powerful and can be found in many of the National Parks of Uganda such Lake Mburo Park, Murchison Falls Park, Queen Elizabeth Park and Kidepo Valley Park.  They are powerful animals and it is no wonders that they were included in the Big Five list.  They are simply powerful and awesome animals to behold.

Elephants in Uganda:  Uganda has both the Savanna Elephants and the Forest Elephants which are a bit smaller and hairier than the Savanna cousins and you can find them in many of the National Parks and various settings such as the savannas and in and near forests.  Elephants of the Savanna or Forest variety can be found in all National Parks but Lake Mburo.   The best places to see Elephants include Murchison Falls National Park, Kidepo Valley National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Rhinos in Uganda: Uganda was home to thousands of Rhinos, both black and white but the civil wars, poaching fueled by the demand for Rhino hors for medicinal purposes in the East and dagger horns in places such as Yemen.  Today there is only Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where there is an active Rhino rehabilitation program. A large reserve that allows the Rhinos to roam in the wild and yet in safety.  You can see the Rhinos of Uganda at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary which is located near Masindi on the way to Murchison Falls National Park.

Mountain Gorillas in Uganda: Not normally included in the Big Five, the Mountain Gorillas are sought out by thousands each year and its featured attraction since it is the only East African country where you can find not only the Mountain Gorillas but a diversity of other African wildlife such as the Big Five Animals listed above.  The parks where Mountain Gorillas can be found are Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla Park

Chimpanzees in Uganda:  There are lots of chimpanzees found in Uganda and best park to track them is the Kibale Forest which is one of the only jungles in East Africa.  A fabulous setting with more primates than any other place in East Africa.  You can also track chimpanzees in Budongo Forest near Murchison Falls, at the Kyambura Gorge at Queen Elizabeth Park and Semiliki Park. You can can also partake in a habituation project for chimpanzee that will last all day long.

You can also visit Ngamba Chimpanzee Island where orphaned Chimpanzees can seen close and actual interaction with chimpanzees can be arranged.  Don’t miss the Chimpanzees of Uganda.
